Hi all!

Let’s dive in.
What you should know
Description
SPAN is a smart electrical panel that replaces your traditional home panel. It offers real-time home energy consumption monitoring and control through their app.
What sets SPAN apart?
Span provides circuit-level control right from the app, allowing you to turn off or on any connected device or appliance. This unique feature also provides valuable energy insights by analyzing your usage patterns, helping you identify ways to improve efficiency.
In the event of a power outage, Span can prioritize "must-have" circuits for backup, ensuring you never miss out on essential services.
One of the main advantages of SPAN is the compatibility with batteries, solar panels and EV chargers. You can integrate and control all these devices from one centralized platform.
The bigger picture
Conventional electrical panels were never designed to give real-time information of your consumption, nor do they provide any remote control. Other energy monitoring systems lack the granular control that SPAN provides at the circuit-level.
While regular energy monitoring systems can track your energy consumption (some even offer disaggregation by device and appliance, just like Span), they often fall short when it comes to device control. To control your devices, you usually need smart plugs, manufacturer-specific apps, or smart home platforms like Apple HomeKit or Google Home.
With SPAN, you can control everything from one place, with advanced functionalities and insights, without requiring smart plugs.
This comes at a cost, as this is not a cheap product. Also it’s not easy to setup, as it requires a specialised installer, so it’s not a plug-and-play solution as some energy monitoring systems are.
Price and availability
SPAN is available in the U.S. for $4500 + taxes, shipping and installation.
What you should read
I was mentioning before Apple HomeKit and Google Home. If you have ever bought a smart device, you know they can only be controlled by Amazon Alexa or one of these two.
The Matter smart home protocol aims to become the standard protocol for smart homes, eliminating compatibility concerns based on your smartphone. Major brands such as Apple, Google, Huawei, and LG are already embracing this protocol.
This article explains what Matter is and the list of manufacturers supporting this protocol.
That’s all for today.
